About

The Department of Economics is active not only in teaching the syllabus prescribed by the University at the Under Graduate and Post Graduate level but also in developing the overall personality of the individual. For this the Department organizes several co-curriculum and extra curricular activities in which the students are encouraged to participate.

The Maharashtra Education Society's, Abasaheb Garware College has started the Department Economics at the Under Graduate level in 1960 & the Post Graduate level in 1970. Since 2003, the department has also started the Post Graduate Research Center in Economics, affiliated to the Pune University.

The Dept. also conducts Postgraduate Diploma in Foreign Trade (PGDFT) from 2007-08 for which there is an overwhelming response (80 students presently). The course time is evening.

The Dept. is a University recognized Centre for Research in Economics. Presently there are 20 students registered for M.Phil. and 19 for Ph.D. and 15 guides are affiliated for M.Phil and Ph.D.

  • • Department of Economics started for UG Level in 1960 and PG Level 1970.

  • • Total number of student is 19 for Ph.D. in Economics.

  • • Department has organised First International Conference in University of Pune 'WTO and Students Impact on Developing Countries.
  • • Dept. always organises Conferences, Seminars, and Workshops on current issues to develop awareness among students.
  • • The department has won the 'Best Department Award' in the college for 2007-08.
